Jason R. AulaLOS ANGELES, California — On Tuesday, February 14th, 2023, pursuant to AB 361, the Signal Hill City Council continued to hold virtual meetings.
The Signal Hill City Council has decided to appoint a city clerk instead of electing one saving the city about $20,000 since a special election would cost about $40,000. Carmen Brooks the present City Clerk is resigning as of March 1, 2023 and the term runs until December 2026 due to moving out of the city. Applications will be accepted by the City of Signal Hill until March 31, 2023 and the new appointee will be selected at the April 11th, 2023. The Signal Hill Municipal Code does not have a legal procedure to deal with the office being vacated. Therefore, the Signal Hill City Council voted unanimously to appoint a new clerk alternatively in lieu of a democratic method such as an election. The City Manager authorized the city to enter into agreement with Moss Adams LLP per approval by the City Attorney for up to $41,800 for professional consulting services. The next regularly scheduled Signal Hill City Council Meeting will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 7:00 P.M. City Council Members are compensated at a rate of $722.18 per month.
