Educator Andrew Zacharias appointed as Commissioner of Signal Hill Parks and Recreation Commission4/28/2022 Jason R. AulaLOS ANGELES, California — On Tuesday, April 26th, pursuant to AB 361, the Signal Hill City Council continued to hold virtual meetings.
On Jan. 30, 2022, Commissioner Terry Rodgers passed away, which created an unscheduled vacancy on the parks and recreation commission. There were 10 applicants, with two withdrawing and eight qualifying before the council interviews. “Putting somebody as number one doesn’t mean we would not be as equally as happy with other nominees,” Vice Mayor Hansen said. “We each are looking for a way of filling the commission in a way that we think is representative of the city.” The Signal Hill City Council appointed educator Andrew Zacharias to the commission term through May 31, 2025. Zacharias, an alumnus of CSULB is a cofounder of Signal Hill nonprofit, Jewel Box Children's Theatre Company and an educator at USC. “I did know Terry Rogers,” said Commissioner Zacharias. “I would be honored to carry on her legacy of civic duty. I love the community here and I feel like there’s a lot that I would be able to help with.” Mayor Keir Jones presented a proclamation to Somone Washington of OneLegacy, declaring April as DMV/Donate Life California Month. OneLegacy a nonprofit, was founded in 1977, to save lives through organ donations in the greater Los Angeles area. The next regularly scheduled Signal Hill City Council meeting will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. City Council Members are compensated at a rate of $694.14 per month.
