Jason R. AulaLOS ANGELES, California — On Tuesday, April 12th, pursuant to AB 361, the Signal Hill City Council continued to hold virtual meetings. The Signal Hill City Council continued exploration of cannabis access in coordination with the City Attorney. Councilmember Wilson a proponent of cannabis said, "its an investment in our future" and declared his industry specific credentials as to cannabis verification as a viable option for Signal Hill. Vice Mayor Hanson and Councilmember Woods opposed cannabis permission in town. Councilmember Woods continued to make frivolous and fake unfounded arguments against cannabis access in town and Vice Mayor Hanson seconded with a discriminatory tone along with Mayor Kier Jones. California attorney Matthew S. Pappas, who specializes in defending medical marijuana patients said, “When it comes to medical marijuana, the cities think they can do whatever they want to do with impunity,” Pappas added California voters clearly want marijuana given the 2016 approval of Proposition 64. The City Attorney will report back to the City Council by early July. The City Council can tax cannabis by ordinance or send the matter to the voters by ballot measure. Mayor Keir Jones presented a proclamation to Librarian Charles Hughes in recognition of National Library week. The next regularly scheduled Signal Hill City Council meeting will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. City Council Members are compensated at a rate of $694.14 per month.
