Jason R. AulaLOS ANGELES, California — On Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 the Signal Hill City Council held an in-person meeting.
The City Council has come to an agreement with John Kalislki Architects, Incorporated (JKA) to develop a new civic center plan for about $218,915 including a new amphitheater for community events. The Civic Center Master Plan was approved by the City Council during April 2023. The City of Signal Hill forecasts the construction period could take about 10 years to complete. The City Council approved two first time contract amendments along with two second contract amendments. SWA Group Incorporated first contract amendment extended the contract term by 10 months with no additional financial compensation due to unforeseen scheduling delays for the Citywide Median Landscape project. Architerra Incorporated's first contract amendment includes a 10-month term addition as well as a request for additional support services for the Hillbrook Park Renovation Design project. Tetra Tech Incorporated's second contract amendment includes a 5-month term addition and $17,000 increase in compensation for Well 10 Construction project. FCG Consultants, Incorporated includes an additional 9-month term addition and $41,019.56 compensation increase due to project delays for Spring Street Bicycle Lane Gap Closure project. Also, the City Council authorized a conditional use permit for a Parking License Agreement between City of Signal Hill and Long Beach Firefighters' Association at 1919 East Hill Street. Kevin Scott, the authorized agent on behalf of the property owner, the Long Beach Firefighters’ Association Corporation Local 372 (LBFFA) requested a permit per, SHMC 20.04.153. The agreement also includes permission for events and to operate a club at the 2201 Cherry office in a (CR) zone district. Said agreement is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act per state law. City Council Members are compensated at a rate of $722.18 per month.

Signal Hill Police Chief Wayne Byerley was introduced by City Manager Carlo Tomaino. “I like the way this city does business,” Byerley said. Chief Byerley introduced and swore in new City of Signal Hill Police Department Officer Heber Mendoza. 'It’s been a great journey to be the chief of police here,” Byerley said. “I’m just honored.” Mayor Hanson and the Sustainable City Committee honored EDCO it’s municipal increases of capacity and efficiency as to the cardboard bailing system. The City Council authorized the City Manager to contract with Hardy & Harper, Incorporated (H&H) for construction of the Palm Drive Pavement Rehabilitation Project from Obispo Avenue to East Willow Street for $851,400. In addition, the City Council also authorized the City Manager to amend the contract between the Shuster Advisory Group, LLC and City of Signal Hill for a 3% cost of living adjustment if necessary. The amendment was the third one for the contract in particular. Finally, there were two additional contract amendments that were streamlined and approved. For the 33rd Street Water Main Replacement Project compensation increases by $9592 for Micheal Baker International, Inc which, provides on call water engineering consulting services. In addition, compensation increases by $36,000 and extends the term until June 30, 2024 for DISC Solutions Inc., which provides professional consulting services to Diversity Coalition Committee. City Council Members are compensated at a rate of $722.18 per month. |
