Jason R. AulaLOS ANGELES, California — On Tuesday, April 25th, 2023, pursuant to AB 361, the Signal Hill City Council continued to hold virtual meetings. Both properties total 10.6 acres and are owned by Signal Hill Petroleum. The City of Signal Hill and Housing authority have acquired $10 million in funding to develop affordable housing at the bluffs. Zoning laws permit up to 380 units on both sites. A portion of the acquired funding comes from the Gateway Cities Affordable Housing Trust. Mayor Hanson swore in the unelected city clerk Daritza Gonzalez. In addition, Mayor Hanson delivered a proclamation to the staff of the Signal Hill Public Library in honor of National Library Week. The council conducted interviews for vacancies for Civil Service Commission, Planning Commission, and Parks and Recreations thru May 31, 2027. The candidates are to be reviewed on May 23, 2023 at the City Council meeting. The recruiting process for the appointed vacancies run by the City of Signal Hill is an open one. City Council Members are compensated at a rate of $722.18 per month.

Mayor Hanson delivered a proclamation to the Signal Hill Police Department in honor of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. Also, Mayor Hanson delivered a proclamation for earning the rank of Eagle Scout to Ben Kitchens of Signal Hill. The city council approved a fee waiver for the Signal Hill Community Foundation for use of the Signal Hill Terrace benefiting the Signal Hill community including permission to serve alcohol at the facility for the event. The city council authorized the City Manager to contract with Rogers Anderson Malody & Scott LLP (RAMS) for a three year period totaling $154,810 for professional auditing services. American Asphalt Inc. completed work for the 2022-2023 Slurry Seal Program per the public works agreement with the City of Signal Hill. Per Assembly Bill 179, the City of Signal Hill was awarded $5,000,000.00 to construct a new amphitheater at Signal Hill Park. The state entity (CAC) California Arts Council is the organization that will disburse the funds to the city. The Signal Hill Youth Sports Basketball Team, “Lil Rascals” was recognized for their championship win of the D-Girls Division for ages 11 and 12. SWA Consultants provided an update on the citywide median landscape and irrigation project. The City Manager was authorized to enter into Public Works contract with Palp, Inc. The Ohio Avenue Street Rehabilitation Project was allocated $323,940.40 by the city manager. City Council Members are compensated at a rate of $722.18 per month. |
